About Texas CBE™

What is Credit by Examination?

Credit by Examination (CBE) is the Texas pathway that lets a student earn academic credit for a subject they already know — without sitting through the course. Two distinct routes exist:

• TEC §28.023 acceleration — for students with no prior instruction in the subject. Passing standard: 80%.
• 19 TAC §74.24 prior-instruction credit — for students who studied the subject but did not receive formal credit. Passing standard: 70%.

Every Texas school district is required to offer Credit by Examination at least twice per year, free to the student.

Our mission

We exist to make Texas Credit by Examination winnable for any motivated student — not just those whose families can afford private tutoring.

Our practice exams are TEKS-tagged to the current Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and modeled after each subject's official CBE format and length — in the sciences that means 50 multiple-choice questions per semester, matching the official science CBEs (the official social-studies CBEs are longer and pair multiple-choice with short essays). Every question is independently authored. We do not administer the CBE. We do not grant credit. We help you prepare.

The 14 days follow the TEKS scope and sequence for each subject, with original, TEKS-tagged questions. Each day you learn one idea, then work five short problems with instant worked solutions.
